Published: 01/03/2008 Suspect in armed robbery found under the covers By Matthew K. Roy Staff Writer PEABODY - Eric Davis of Lynn wielded what looked like a black automatic handgun when he attempted to rob a 7-Eleven on Route 1 north just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, according to police. He tried unsuccessfully to open the store's cash register. Instead of leaving with cash, Davis fled on foot, stealing only a bag of potato chips, police said. He was last seen in front of the Holiday Inn on Route 1. Peabody police, with help from the state police, launched a search for the armed suspect and eventually discovered Davis later on Tuesday night in Room 241 of the Holiday Inn. He was one of two people found fully clothed and under the covers of the hotel bed. A witness from 7-Eleven identified Davis. The weapon turned out to be a pellet gun, police said. Davis, 27, of 182 Henry Ave., Lynn, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, intimidation of a witness and larceny under $250. Davis was also arrested on outstanding warrants from Lynn and Salem District Courts that included charges of drug possession, driving with a suspended license, assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, threats to commit a crime, and resisting arrest. Peabody officers Michael Nary, Richard Rose, Eric Ricci, Joseph Coup and Sgt. Richard Callahan worked to locate Davis and take him into custody. Lt. Dennis Bonaiuto credited them for getting Davis off the streets in a timely fashion. "The officers did a really good job at piecing everything together so quickly and getting the matter resolved before something else could happen," Bonaiuto said.
