From what I understand they want to hire 40+. And rumor has it they are all going to the HOC. Did you get a call?

Yes, I did get a letter stating training starts on Jan. 03 2005. So I have been running, doing situps and pushups. Do you know if the do PT everyday or is it everyother day?

PT is every day, outdoors for the most part. One good thing is when you get OC'd the cold air will help relieve the effects.

Pearl - you seem way too sensitive to legitimate barbs that spur conversation, debate and possible understanding. Why not lighten up on this "locked topic" and "delete" nonsense ? Everyone here is a big boy. No one will be sued. Sometimes controversy makes topics interesting...

Jasper,

In my opinion your legitimate barb to spur conversation was actually a illegitimate insult to a great profession designed to spur conversation away from the subject (Suffolk County Sheriff's Academy) and toward shitting on the profession. I found it insulting to any Deputy Sheriff who works in the jails, and does the right thing. But all in all, it had nothing to do with the topic. "Trolling" takes good topics off track. Believe it or not, some people come here to learn and talk, and not argue all the time.

The Board Terms of Service are fairly clear. If you can't find them, let me know and I'll send them to you. If you have any futher issues, please address them to the board administrator.

once again, as a many of the police officers here can attest - many of us were correction officers or campus police officers before obtaining our current job. Like the vast majority can attest, we have NO qualms with correction officers or Deputies who EARNED their job. Personally, I think EVERY deputy should have to work as a full time correction officer for 1 year before being appointed as a deputy - similar to the state correction department. It's not the deputies that earn their job and do what they were hired to do that irk real police, it's the" buy a position"political, or otherwise, deputies who seek to circumvent the system and play police officer. If all deputies simply did what they were hired to do, and ZERO/NONE were hired for traffic enforcement, 9-1-1 or other police related matters - there would be no disrespect towards them. It's the few that could not pass the muster to be police that try to buy a position as a deputy and then seek responsibilities that are simply NOT theirs that raise an eyebrow. If you earned a posistion as a deputy by working full time with inmates for a year - congratulations. You are respected as being a deputy. But you still do not do 9-1-1 calls, regular police calls or traffic enforcement. You are not a police officer so stop trying to impersonate one. We do dot impersonate deputies. - If you bought a posistion as a deputy with money or by holding a campaign sign or through political connections- fagetaboutit - you will never be respected by anyone in law enforcement. Pearl. I know that you are a correction officer and a part time police officer - I respect you. It's the deputies that refuse to pay their dues by walking the walk that alot of us are irked by. They don't think they need to EARN it and that shows the inherent disrespect they have for the very posistion they bought. Wannabe police.

Trooper to local, "Stay in your town wannabe trooper."

Full-time local to part-time local, "Quit sucking up to the brass and don't touch the damn radio wannabe."

Locals to sheriffs, "Stay in the jails where you belong wannabe."

All these egos...everyone who we perceive to be below us all want to be like us...and so it goes. Will the B.S. ever cease? 8)

We do not impersonate Deputies??Jasper, you need to go out of your town once in a while and see how things really work. How many POLICE do you think there are that are sworn in as Deputy sheriff"s?If you go take a poll, you'll probably surprise yourself.Unless you plan on conducting a personal survey as to who became a Deputy by legitimate means or earned it you ought bring up something with a little more substance. As for 9-1-1 calls and details, you should also do your homework.Want me to tell you how many times I have been called out at 3am to look for wanted felons or lost persons. It's not because I love the limelight, but rather that is what I'm trained to do and the area i'm from we have a very good working relationship with the local police departments. They use us constantly;must be a reason for that.Yes I can't stand the spineless weasels that never earned what they have(deputies)but until the legislature or someone does something to change the policies, i'm not going to lose any sleep over it, or am I going to worry everyday whether someone like you respects me as a Deputy or not, really I could care less.I havn't met alot of police departments that all get along so great as you might portray they do.

K9 - i have no problem with K9 deputies; i respect you and your peers. it's the the political hacks that irk me. but, although i respect you and the job you do, i still see no need for you to be doing things other what you were hired for - like traffic enforcement. it's simple- everyone simply do your own job and we all get along

Jasper,

Again, you see this is why I edited your previous posts, and posts similar to this. You will find that this topic is a discussion of the upcoming Suffolk County Sheriff's Department Academy. A topic where people new to the job, were seeking information specific to the academy.

However, because we all insist upon turing every single conversation about the Sheriff's Departments into "A Deputy Sheriff is defined as a hack if...." or something similar, the topic has again lost it's meaning.

Topic is wholly off track, and thereby locked.
