STRATFORD, Conn. (AP) - Stratford police say they discovered a woman's body in a car that was found partially submerged in the Housatonic River.
The woman's identity was not confirmed early Saturday afternoon, a few hours after a tow truck pulled the car from the water near the Birdseye boat ramp.
A Stratford police captain said there were no obvious signs of foul play, but that the state medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy Sunday.
She was described as a woman in her 50s.
Police believe they know who she is, but her identity will not be released until the autopsy confirms it and until her family is notified.

Stratford police ID dead woman in submerged car

Associated Press - September 2, 2008 2:24 PM ET

STRATFORD, Conn. (AP) - Stratford police have released the name of a woman found dead in a car submerged near a Housatonic River boat ramp over the holiday weekend.
Authorities say an autopsy showed 58-year-old Carmen Cabrara of West Haven died of cardiovascular disease. Police say she was in a car parked on the boat ramp when an unusually high tide pulled it into the water.
Cabrara's body was found early Saturday morning in the car, which was submerged in about five feet of water a short distance from the ramp.
