CONCORD, N.H. -- The New Hampshire Attorney General's Office is warning people about an e-mail scam that promises an economic stimulus check from the Internal Revenue Service.

The message says the recipient is eligible to receive money from the IRS and must submit personal information to get the check.

State Attorney General Kelly Ayotte warned that this is a scam and the Internal Revenue Service does not conduct business over the Internet. She urged consumers to call the agency or company supposedly sending the message to confirm whether the e-mail is legitimate.

Ayotte issued the warning after her Consumer Protection Bureau received complaints about the e-mail.
