second time in as many weeks I see a State Trooper doing some crazy stuff.

I live in a small town, we have a state road running the length of town...they just put in new "school zone" signs.

Today a trooper is standing in the lane shooting speeders coming over this hill. I think it was a "tag team" detail as there was another trooper down the road waiting...

A couple weeks ago on the MassPike, a Trooper was out in the fast lane shooting speeders, then pulling them over by "encroaching" the lane and pointing at them....

You guys got balls the size of small planets.

Standing in the traveled lane and pointing cars off the road... with the way everyone drives these days, I'm surprised some ass doing 50 in a 30 (while talking on his cell, reading the paper and having his egg mcmuffin) doesn't crash right into the trooper.

50 in a 30? JoninNH, thats NOTHING, what about the troopers doing that to cars doing 80+ on rt 6 at the rest area on rt 6 on the cape, or 495? I'm very amazed every time I see them standing outside their car, steadying the laser on the open rear passenger door....
And they tell me not to stop in the BDL to talk on my phone

I have yet to hear of any Trooper struck by a motorist while flagging them down on the highway yet I have heard of and seen a few Troopers injured by having their fully marked vehicle with emergency lights on hit by a motorist. Beside the soft grass is only a quick jump from a speeding car away

Two weeks ago a Trooper on 290 in Shrewsbury was hit by a car that was hit by another car after being waved over for erratic operation. Come to find out the guy was OUI drugs, suspended, and called in twice about 10-15 minutes before the incident happened. The Trooper is now recovering with injuries to his hip, leg and foot. He was lucky he was making a passenger side approach or he would have been hit by the first car.

Yep, SOP, just jump out and flag them in (while shouting "Gid-over-here!"). Works almost every time...if not, it's off-to-the-races and an arrest... 8)

I'd like to talk with you longer, but it's supper time and I have a "couple of planets" to feed! :D

That used to be me... for some reason I finally figured out that it MIGHT not be the safest way to operate a M/V... But I quite often got to read the herald cover to cover  Now I don't get to read it as often :(

Well, when you can slap and dent the fender of the speeding car with the lidar gun, as it passes you, get the car stopped, make the arrest, have the sh-tbag arrestee notice the new dent in his fender as he is being escorted to the cruiser and not make an issue of it, and oh yeah, the lidar still works great, then come talk to me. Been there, done that, been told not to do it again.

the troopers in NH do the same thing... they throw on a orange traffic vest, park the cruiser in the median next to the high speed lane and aim the radar gun at on-coming traffic. Once they see a car they want, the step right out into the travel lane, scaring the crap outta every driver on the raod not to mention creating gridlock until that "lucky" car makes it to the side of the road!

The Lidar is too expensive for that, just bounce your cuffs off the side window. With practice you can shatter the window with ease.

Good idea, but the lidar was already in my hand. The best implement I've seen used to get a motorists attention on the highway though, was a lit flare. It worked!! No, not me, but its pretty cool to see how well a lit flare looks, as it is hurdling through the air.

A lit flare....I used them and a long rain coat as a joke on a detail in Middlefield when the townfolk said they couldn't see me standing in the middle of the road. Next time I'll try throwing them.

2blue can I borrow your name tag for the invest - just in case
