A police standoff with a man who allegedly robbed a pharmacy yesterday evening and then ran into a random home on Saxton Avenue in Dorchester armed with a gun ended peacefully when SWAT officers found the man hiding in a plastic bin.

The man, whose identity was not released, was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and was expected to be booked last night on multiple charges, including armed robbery, said Police Superintendent Kenneth Fong.
Police said the man robbed the Maxim Pharmacy at 1365 Dorchester Ave. just before 4 p.m. and fled toward Savin Hill Avenue. An undercover officer who was near the pharmacy when the robbery occurred chased the suspect.
He and witnesses saw the man jumping fences and fleeing before eventually running into the home at 15 Saxton Ave.
A woman named Jennifer, who would not give her full name for fear of her safety, said her children were playing outside when they saw the man jump over the fence in their Maryland Street yard, a gun in his hand. She said the man had dark-colored hair and was not wearing a shirt.
"A cop ran down the street and said, 'Get the kids in the house,' " she said.
Fong said officers saw the man enter the Saxton Avenue home, and the SWAT team was called in. A perimeter was set up around the neighborhood.
The incident brought out neighborhood residents trying to catch a glimpse of the standoff.
Some residents thanked police, saying the incident could have happened in any of their homes.
As the incident unfolded, SWAT trucks were positioned outside the home and police could be heard speaking on an intercom, telling the man to surrender.
Close to two hours after the standoff began, police went inside.
"The suspect was subsequently found hiding in a plastic container on the second floor," Fong said.
Police would not say if the man still had the gun. They were working to secure a search warrant of the home yesterday to look for a weapon
