Springfield Police Will Not be Marching
SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) - Springfield Police will be passing up this year's Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade, and it's got to do with on going contract disputes. It will be the first time in the 50 year plus history of the parade that Springfield Police won’t be part of the festivities. The reason the police officers wont be marching is they say they're frustrated over the lack of a contract and the that the city hasn't come thru on a raise that they've been waiting 2 years. Most years about 78 officers march in the parade. Ninety percent of those were volunteers. The head of the patrolman's union told 22News this year they needed to send a message.
