SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Two pedestrians made a disturbing discovery while walking on a city street Wednesday night.
Springfield Police Captain Robert McFarlin told 22News around 4 o'clock two people spotted the body of a 32-year old man who had apparently been stabbed to death. The body was found dumped about 30 feet away from the sidewalk near an abandoned home at 77 Armory Street.
The man has been identified as resident and native of Sudan, Africa. His name has not been released yet. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning.
Neighbors told 22News the abandoned home near where the body was found is a haven for illegal drug activity. But so far, Capt. McFarlin said the murder does not appear to be drug or gang related.
No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named, but Capt. McFarlin said the department has received several tips.
