Springfield Leads State Crime Rate

FBI Reports 1 Violent Crime For Every 54 Residents

POSTED: 8:27 am EDT October 18, 2005

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Springfield leads Massachusetts with the highest rate of violent crime.

Statistics released by the FBI show the state's third-largest city reported about 2,700 violent crimes last year -- about one for every 54 residents.

That compares to Boston, which reported a statistical average of one violent crime for every 83 residents, and one for every 126 residents in Worcester.

Springfield's number of violent crimes actually went down by 46 cases since 2003. But there were 17 murders in 2004, two more than the year before.

The FBI numbers show a slight dip in overall violent crime in Massachusetts, with about 29,000 reports in 2004 compared to about 30,000 reports a year earlier.

There were 169 murders across the state last year, 27 more than in 2003.

Brockton is a wonderful city too! A little soggy but not as bad as Taunton.

Like a buddy of mine would say with the least bit of surprise: "No Shit?"

Anyone who needs an FBI report to determine that, obviously has never taken a ride though Springfield. Springfield is about as pretty as Bridgeport, CT.
