    This is a rolling open-application, candidates will be contacted at the need of the District to fill positions.

    This application pool may be considered to fill full-time positions in the District's phase 2 expansion. Full time positions added to staff for the Districts expansion are expected to start full-time late summer 2020, but will be required to attend training in a per-diem status in the months leading up to full time appointment.

    GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

    Performs difficult technical work participating in the dispatching and coordination of public safety and related equipment and personnel to emergency and non-emergency requests for service; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general administrative supervision of the 9-1-1 Operations Supervisor. Supervision is exercised: none. The successful candidate will be resilient and welcoming to change and will be able to foster a work environment of collaboration and teamwork.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

    Serving as part of the operations team in the Regional Emergency Communications Center; participating in receiving, classifying, processing and dispatching all emergency and non-emergency calls for service utilizing NG-911, business telephone system, computer-aided dispatch, and other computer-related systems

    • Operates of radios, telecommunications equipment recording devices, computer terminals, and records procedures
    • Utilizes and maintains a strong working knowledge of procedures and policies.
    • Maintains situational awareness of local, regional, state and national emergencies, weather events, mutual aid status, major incidents, planned events, etc. Notifies command staff and other personnel as indicated and in accordance with various policies. Participates in other emergency management functions as assigned.
    • Operates various cloud, web, and pc based applications. Supervisors will be required to maintain a detailed knowledge of the operations of all systems and be able to perform basic troubleshooting.
    • Receives emergency and non-emergency calls determine the location and nature of the call and dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment.
    • Determines caller's location utilizing maps and other graphical interfaces.
    • Receives and transmits messages by radio and maintains radio log on shift work.
    • Prepares reports, makes entries into databases and logs.
    • Operates the TDD interface to receive calls for the hearing impaired
    • Works varying shifts and flexible schedules.
    • Monitors CCTV and other camera systems.
    • Monitors active maps to determine unit locations and proximity to incidents.
    • Conducts employee self-evaluations.
    • Reports hours worked in schedule and payroll software.
    • Trains on and implements new equipment and procedures.
    • Testifies in court or answers court and police inquiries as directed.
    • Provides training and mentorship to new communications personnel.
    • Performs data entry.
    • Performs related tasks as required.
    This work may require the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, typing, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities, interpreting map data and monitoring various camera systems and status lights.

    Requirements
    • Thorough knowledge of the methods of operating the communications system.
    • Thorough knowledge of radio and teletype procedures, including Open Fox and CJIS.
    • Thorough knowledge of the geography of the member towns and neighboring towns and location of important buildings.
    • Ability to type at a reasonable rate of speed and record notes and narratives without the use of pen/paper.
    • Extensive and demonstrative knowledge of the use and application of MS Office Suite and electronic mail systems ability to speak distinctly.
    • Ability to operate all communications equipment; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility.
    • Ability to deal courteously with the general public under stressful conditions.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
    • Ability to work up to 16-hour shifts without degradation of performance.
    • Be able to remain calm and perform during crisis situations.
    • Ability to multitask during high-pressure and complex situations.
    • Ability to work all shifts including during inclement weather, nights, holidays, weekends, and crises. This position is considered "essential" and employees are required to report to work regardless of weather conditions or other adversity.
    • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a high tempo, high-security communications center.
    All candidates will be required to pass a detailed background investigation prior to employment. Additionally, all candidates must have the ability to obtain a CJIS certification as a condition of employment. Successful candidates shall have unimpeachable moral character and no history of CJIS, PII, HIPAA or other related security violations.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by specialized telecommunications training and considerable experience as a Communications Operator, dispatcher or related profession.

    Special consideration:

    Successful candidates are expected to begin work as a per-diem trainee. All trainees will be required to successfully complete a part-time training program as a condition of employment. Subject to the successful completion of the training program, per-diem employees may be appointed to a full-time position. All candidates must acknowledge the requirement for completing the part-time training program. This position is not eligible for benefits while the member is in a non-full-time status.
