HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A three judge panel has found that an Enfield man is not guilty of murder in the beating death of his father because he is mentally ill.
Brian Pagnam had been arrested in 2006 and told police that the CIA ordered him to do it.
Pagnam's trial began Monday in Hartford Superior Court before the three judges who found him not guilty by reason of mental defect Tuesday.
Both the state and the defense had doubts about the 41-year-old Pagnam's mental stability, but the trial is required by state law.
A detective had testified Pagnam told investigators he was doing a job for the CIA when he struck his 85-year-old father, put a bag on his head and stomped on his neck.
