Four People Shot Along St. Patrick's Parade Route
HOLYOKE, MASSACHUSETTS
(WWLP, March 23, 2003) - Violence erupted in downtown Holyoke late this afternoon, near the end of the St. Patrick's Parade. Four people were wounded by a lone gunman who police say opened fire at High and Appleton Streets along the Parade route. One man was hospitalized from a gunshot wound to the chest. He's listed in serious condition. The three others, including a woman, were less seriously wounded. Detectives say two of the people shot, were innocent bystanders. The shots rang out while the last of the marching units were going by. Two men were arrested for disorderly conduct following the shootings. The search goes on for the man believed responsible for the shootings. A witness told police that one man started shooting into the crowd just as the parade was ending. Police are continuing to question witnesses.

I was working in Holyoke today and was on scene at the shooting......latest information on the shooting was that it was caused by a gang wanting revenge on others. I have worked at the parade for the past five years, and this year by far had the most violence/disturbances.
