A Frederick County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a Frederick man who lunged at Maryland State Police troopers with a pair of scissors Friday, the sheriff's office said.The names of the 40-year-old suspect and the 38-year-old deputy were being withheld pending until relatives are notified, Cpl. Jennifer Bailey said.
She said the deputy, a corporal who and 12-year sheriff's office veteran, is on administrative leave with pay while authorities investigate the shooting.
The shooting occurred around 11 a.m. just south of the Francis Scott Key mall, where the suspect allegedly stole a necklace worth more than $500 from a Kay Jewelers store, police said.
