On October 31st, shortly after 10:00 p.m., a Field Training Officer (FTO) and his female student officer were parked in their patrol car in the 100 Block of 29th Avenue South. The student officer was seated in the driver’s seat and the FTO was in the passenger seat. A vehicle that has been described as a light-colored sedan pulled up next to the parked patrol car and the suspect(s) fired multiple shots into the patrol car. The Field Training Officer was struck multiple times, killing him. The student officer received minor injuries. She was able to get out of the patrol car, return fire several times to the fleeing suspect vehicle, and call for additional units. Officers from all precincts responded, as well as Homicide and CSI. This investigation is very much active and ongoing, and is a priority for the Department. Information is limited at this time, as it is still early in the investigation. There is a press conference tentatively scheduled for later this afternoon, where we hope to provide additional information.

The Seattle Police Department has announced the identity of the officers in the shooting.
The deceased veteran training officer is Officer Tim Brenton.
Brenton joined the Seattle Police Department in 2001 after being a police officer in LaConner, in Skagit County. His father and uncle are retired from the Seattle Police, and he has a brother-in-law who is a member of the Seattle Fire Department.
The slain officer leaves behind a wife and two children, ages 11 and 8.
His partner, who was suffering minor injuries in the shooting was identified as Brit Sweeney, a 7 month member of the force. May God Bless him, his family and the department.

Police commanders say this shooting is a deliberate "assassination."

I hope the suspect did the world a favor and washed his mouth out with buckshot! Couldn't get that lucky though.

RIP Officer Brenton, may your killer hang high

Rest in Peace. You're in a lot safer place than that pathetic liberal city. You'll now be able to walk around and be noticed with tremendous gratitude for the sacrifice you made.

No more looking over your shoulder. The people staring at you are doing so in awe, not in contempt.

You will enjoy a sense of peace that you could never achieve on the streets of Seattle.

You may not qualify to be seated at the right hand of the father but it will be your job to look over them. There will never be a doubt about their faith in you.

After all, you are still a cop.

While I prefer to wait for an official release from the Seattle Police there are stories now being released in various sources quoting Tukwila and other law officers on scene as saying the suspect was shot "in the head" and was still alive and rushed into surgery at Harborview Medical Center. The site had been under surveillance all day and a car suspected of being involved in the shooting is there. The suspect had, according to one report, pulled a weapon and tried to fire but was met by "multiple shots" from police. Others who were in the area and had been in contact with this suspect and now being questioned. The bomb squad, crime scene, homicide unit and others from Seattle are on scene. It broke 25 minutes after the close of Officer Brenton's memorial service.

    Anyone see the comments?

Nothing like what we'd get around here...we'd get comments alleging the cops shot him intentionally out of anger.
