NEWBURYPORT, Mass. -- Police lifted a lockdown on three elementary schools in Newburyport, but are still searching for a man who was reportedly carrying a handgun nearby.
Police said the Molin, Bresnahan and Brown schools were released one at time Wednesday after a lockdown that lasted about 90 minutes.
The call to police came at about 2:30 p.m. and schools were placed in lockdown shortly afterward. No students were allowed to leave, and no one was allowed to enter the school during the lockdown.
The caller told police the man was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and camouflage.
