City orders Southie: Get tough on booze for St. Pat's Day

March 16, 2013

With more than 40,000 marchers and tens of thousands more slated to descend on South Boston tomorrow for this year's St. Patrick's Day parade, Hub cops are vowing to crack down on public drinking, bars that overserve and other boozy mayhem.
"There's no place like the city of Boston when it comes to St. Patrick's Day traditions and celebrations," Mayor Thomas M. Menino said. "We're working hard to provide a festive, fun and family-friendly atmosphere for all to enjoy, and we hope residents and visitors alike will join us in that effort."
The city has ordered Southie liquor stores to shut down at 4 p.m. tomorrow and bars by 7:30 p.m. Menino also issued a stern warning that "public drinking will not be tolerated." Cops also reminded party hosts that they are "responsible" for their guests' behavior.

OMG not that, OBM ?!?! :D

Handing out citations for public drinking at a Paddy's Day parade is like issuing speeding tickets at the Daytona 500.

If you're not engaged in "other boozy mayhem", having a beer while watching the parade shouldn't be an issue, but I guess we have the knackers, langers and wankers to thank for the crack down. :(

It's St. Patrick's Day, of course people are going to drink !

it's the out of towners and collage kids you love to pander to that will get obnoxious at the parade.

I imagine there wont be any problems at 7:30pm when the bars close and all those people are sent into the streets.
With their Dunkin Donuts "coffee cups".

Delta you must be headed into the bunker, not yor favorite time of year.....
As luck would have it I am off this weekend.
Multiple stabbings in dorchester last night. More than a usual day. Revere also had 4 stab victims after a fight. Very busy on the radio last night. A pastor who left his truck running while walking into church was held up, and a veteran was robbed at gunpoint; assailant stole his fu*king honorable discharge papers he had.
Springfield was a shitshow last night/morning. Bars closing by 1930, thats an asshole move, oh wait, it mumbles menino, no suprise!

So instead of people slowly trickling out of the bars at their leisure between noon and 0200, the city is going to release them en masse on the streets if Southie and redline trains? Seems smart.

Good luck and stay safe C-6, H6, and Transit.

F'n racist-drinking is part of the Carribean culture (as well as smoking pot, fighting, stabbing, and dry humping in public!)...just sayin';)
On my way over now-funny how St Paddy's has become more of an amatuer hour than New Year's Eve-will try not to violate anyone's 4th Amendment Rights-got a cup? I don't care what's in it-stupid enough to go from the bottle-citation. Will report in from the trenches if oppurtunity presents itself.. Stay Safe all involved

NYE is not a big deal anymore, people tend to get Chinese food and stay home. The ultimate amateur night for us is the night before Thanksgiving, with St. Patrick's Day a close second.
