The Sacramento Police Department is looking for people to not only uphold these values, but embody them. People to help us better serve the community by protecting its freedom and quality of life.

If you're up to the challenge, consider a career with the Sacramento Police Department. We offer as broad a range of opportunities as there are qualified people to fill them.

Police Cadets are required to complete the P.O.S.T. Basic Police Academy. P.O.S.T is administered through the Department's Training Division and is paid for by the Department. Cadets receive salary and benefits while attending the Academy.

Upon successful completion of academy training, newly sworn Police Officers enter a Field Training Program where they are trained and evaluated by an experienced FTO (Field Training Officer).

Sacramento Police Officers patrol designated areas, answer radio dispatches or citizens' requests, conduct investigations, testify in court, provide traffic control and investigate collisions, attend community meetings, evaluate and control violent situations, provide first aid, and drive vehicles under hazardous conditions. Officers may be assigned to any shift. Upon completing two years of service, officers are eligible to test for other Specialized Units.
