By Bruno Matarazzo Jr.
Staff writer

SALEM - A 21-year-old local man accused of stealing a purse was arrested on the roof of a Cushing Street home yesterday following a foot chase by police.
Police said Benito Ramos of 12 Ward St., Salem, ran into his ex-girlfriend's home while running from police.
Police were looking for Ramos for his suspected involvement in breaking into a car parked on Butler Street and stealing a $350 Coach purse with four credit cards inside.
Police said Ramos was spotted on the roof. When he came back into the building through a window, he was arrested by police. He faces charges of larceny worth more than $250, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, breaking and entering to commit a felony, and a fraudulent use of a credit card.
Police said Ramos used one of the victim's credit cards to buy Newport cigarettes and three lottery tickets.
Police did an extensive search of the area but could not locate the victim's purse or her credit cards.
