WEYMOUTH -

A Rockland man has lost his license for life after he was charged with his fourth drunken driving offense.
Charles Cherry, 51, was arrested after a Weymouth Police officer recorded him traveling in a light rain at 54 miles per hour in a 30-mile-per-hour speed zone on Wednesday night, Sgt. Richard Fuller said.
Cherry was pulled over on Commercial Street and failed several field sobriety tests, Fuller said.
Cherry has a lengthy driving record dating back to 1982. His three prior drunken-driving convictions were in Abington in 2000, in Dorchester in 1986, and in Quincy in 1986.
Ann Dufresne, spokeswoman for the Registry of Motor Vehicles, said Cherry will have his license revoked for a lifetime because the Weymouth arrest was his fourth for drunk driving and he has refused chemical intoxication tests.
He will not be eligible for any hardship license or for the registry's ignition interlock program, which requires installation of a device that electronically checks a driver's blood-alcohol level every time the key is placed in the ignition.
