ROCKLAND -
A Rockland man was charged with several firearms violations after he allegedly flashed a gun at another motorist while both cars were headed south on Route 3 Saturday morning.
Walter Duffy, 62, of 11 Alpine St. did have a license to carry a firearm but was charged with several violations after police stopped him and found a fully loaded Smith and Wesson 9 mm semiautomatic handgun under the passenger's seat. He had exited Route 3 at the Route 18 exit in Weymouth.
State Police received a report that the suspect was driving a car registered to Elizabeth Aguiar, 48, 5 Alpine St. south on Route 3 and waved it out the window at a car that was following him.
Rockland police located the car traveling on Beech Street and stopped it. Aguiar told them that they were being tailgated by another car and that Duffy decided to wave his gun out the window at the car. When Rockland police stopped the car, Duffy removed the gun from his shoulder holster and told Aguiar to place it under the seat, according to Aguiar
Aguiar was charged with violating the town bylaw that prophibits possession of an open container of alcohol in public and possess ion Class E drugs.
"The best part," the Rockland police press release said, "is that everyone went home safely."
