CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Two armed robberies in a matter of hours in Chicopee are making students on the campus of Elms College a bit anxious.
Kelly Lawson is a sophomore at Elms College. In the two years she's been at the school, she's never felt in danger, but news of an armed robbery on campus over the weekend is making her uneasy.
"I can't even imagine someone would just walk up and do something like that. Now it makes me feel a little more nervous," said Lawson.
Police in Chicopee are investigating the two incidents that took place just hours apart near Elms College. A pizza deliveryman was robbed at gunpoint just down the street from campus near Asinof Avenue around 8 o'clock Saturday night. Then, hours later, three girls between 16 and 18 years old were held up in the center of campus.
The alleged crime happened off Springfield Street. The girls were walking by a statue when a man with a gun told them to get on the ground and then stole their wallets.
Police believe the same two suspects are responsible for the crimes. There was some concern the robberies are gang-related, but police say they are not.
