Ran a guy a couple of nights ago who can back with an Active License and a Suspended License. OLNs were different , so was his address (by one street number.) Officer ended up letting him drive away (no warrants).

I called the RMV and they told me we should have considered him suspended. So I asked then why does he have an active licence and could they suspend the active number. They told me no that is just the way things are.

Whats up with the RMV??? WHat would you have done?

Suspended under any number, at the least summons. Let them work it out with the RMV

That is not as uncommon as you might think.

It is possible to hold both license status' in Mass. The RMV doesn't cross check. For example, Mr. Smith holds a CT license when he is stopped in Mass for 90-18. Cited, assigned an "Alpha" number (ake file number) in the Mass RMV system-and defaults. Gets suspended under that number. Several years later, he moves to Massachusetts, converts his active CT license into an Active Mass license under his Social Security number. The RMV doesnt cross check so he goes undetected-until a sharp Massachusetts Police Officer runs him by Name & DOB and finds two separate license status'. The same thing can happen for a Mass resident who nevers gets a license and is assigned a number. If they go long enough without incident, he can be assigned a permit/license under an SS# and the cycle repeats itself. I have had both situations occur several times. Normally, the NDR catches this or the name/DOB is flagged to prevent a license from being issued but don't bet on it. In any case, if they are status susp/rev under any file number or name, I would treat it as such. Let them explain it later in Court.

I think if someone sat down with the powers that be and speak in a language they understand "MONEY" and how much the state looses because of their downtime, screw-ups etc... they might pay closer attention.

I've been having problems with RMV here too. On revocations for insurance and suspensions(if registered owner) we seize the plates. The RMV, instead of issuing new plates , they reinstate the old ones. So these fools come back to the department asking for their plates. Our detective called over in Boston today and the RMV person in charge confirmed to seize plates and RMV has to reissue new ones. I wish they sent a memo out to the RMV offices. :DP:
