Pawtucket man may be victim of robbery
PAWTUCKET - Police say the 63-year-old brother of a Pawtucket detective was fatally shot Friday morning, possibly the result of an attempted robbery as he was walking to catch a bus to work.

Carl M. Seebeck, of 100 West Cole St. in Pawtucket, died later at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital.

Seebeck is the brother of Pawtucket Detective Capt. John Seebeck and a longtime resident of the city, police said.

"The attack appeared to be random and may have been the result of an attempted robbery," Pawtucket police Major John Whiting said in a release.

The shooting occurred about 4:30 a.m. on Broadway in the area of Blackstone Avenue, about a mile from the Attleboro line. The attack was initially believed to be a stabbing, but the medical examiner determined Seebeck's wound was caused by a gunshot.

Seebeck was walking from his home to a bus stop in the center of Pawtucket to go to work, when he was confronted and shot about a half-mile from his home, police said.

Initial reports from witnesses indicated there may have been one or two gunshots about the time of the call.

When asked if there were any suspects, Whiting said, "The only thing I can say is the investigation is continuing."

Police are urging anyone with any information regarding the shooting to call Pawtucket police at 401-727-9100 and ask for Whiting at extension 726 or the desk sergeant at extension 712. Callers may remain anonymous.
