GREENFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A retired Greenfield police officer claims in a suit against the town that he has not been paid all the money he is due as part of his retirement.
Denis Menard was on the force for 26 years until he was asked to retire in 2007. He had been limited to light desk duty for 3 1/2 years after breaking a knee and wrist during an investigation.
Menard claims in his suit that the town has refused to compensate him for sick time, vacation time, compensatory time and personal time accrued under union contract terms while he was out injured.
Menard says he asked that the matter be sent to arbitration, but the town refused.
Dennis Helmus, head of human resources for the town, says that Menard's claims are not true.
