    A police officer was reportedly struck by a car in front of the Marshfield Fair on Main Street in Marshfield late Saturday evening around 10:00 PM. The officer reportedly was taken by Med Flight helicopter to a Boston area hospital. State Police and Marshfield Police spent several hours reconstructing the scene. Marshfield police said Sunday they would release further information later in the day.

    Marshfield police said Sunday morning further information would be released later in the day. The officer reportedly was taken by MedFlight helicopter to a Boston area hospital.
    State Police and Marshfield Police spent several hours reconstructing the scene.

    MARSHFIELD, Mass. -- A police officer was badly hurt after being struck by a car while directing traffic.
    Police say the officer was hit by a passing vehicle at the Marshfield Fairgrounds Saturday night.
    The officer was med-flighted to a nearby hospital.
    The extent of the officer's injuries are unknown.

    Duxbury officer struck by vehicle in Marshfield, MA


    (NECN) - On Saturday at approximately 10 pm, Marshfield Police received 911 calls to respond to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Main Street and South River Street.

    Upon arrival Marshfield police observed that Officer Mel Dyer had been struck by a motor vehicle while working a paid traffic detail for the Marshfield Fair at that location. Officer Dyer was found unconscious and was attended to by the Marshfield FD and was transported via Med-flight to a Boston Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

    Officer Dyer is a part time police officer for the Town of Duxbury as well as a former Deputy Sheriff for the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department. He was employed as a Duxbury Officer at the time of this incident.

    Preliminary investigation revealed that Officer Dyer was assisting pedestrians leaving the Fair in crossing South River and Main Streets as well as assisting vehicles entering Main Street from various parking lots. Witness statements indicate that Officer Dyer had directed traffic heading north and south on Main Street to stop to allow vehicles to leave a private parking lot. Witness statements further reveal that one vehicle failed to stop and struck Officer Dyer.

    The incident remains under investigation by both Marshfield PD and the State Police.

    MARSHFIELD —
    Police plan to charge the driver of a car that struck a part-time Duxbury police officer who was directing traffic outside the Marshfield Fair.
    Melvin E. Dyer, 67, was listed in critical condition today at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was taken there by helicopter after Marshfield police found him unconscious and on the ground at about 10 p.m. Saturday, the festival’s second day of the season.
    Dyer was working a paid detail at the intersection of Route 3A and South River Street when he was struck by a silver Toyota sedan. Police have identified the driver but have not released a name.
    Marshfield police said that Dyer was helping pedestrians and vehicles leaving the fair when he was hit.
    Dyer, who lives in Marshfield, was appointed a reserve deputy with the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department in 2005 and worked there part-time doing parade patrols and road details for one year until retiring.

    DUXBURY —
    A part-time Duxbury police officer has died from injuries he suffered when he was hit by a car at the Marshfield Fair 10 days ago.
    Melvin E. Dyer, 67, of Marshfield, was directing traffic at the fair when he was hit.
    Dyer had been at Brigham and Women’s Hospital since the Aug. 16 accident.
    Marshfield police have issued charges against the driver of the car, Kristen M. Wusteney, 25, of Marshfield.
    Those charges include negligent operation, speeding and failing to stop for a police officer.
    Dyer was working a paid detail at the intersection of Route 3A and South River Street when he was struck by a silver Toyota sedan at about 10 p.m.
    Witnesses told police that Dyer had stopped traffic on Route 3A to let vehicles exit a private parking lot. One vehicle, heading north on Route 3A, did not stop and hit Dyer, police have said.
    Dyer was a former part-time deputy sheriff in Plymouth County. He was a member of the Marshfield Rod and Gun Club.
    Duxbury Police Chief Mark DeLuca said police will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday to talk about Dyer’s death.

    Funeral set for officer struck on duty

    DUXBURY - Gov. Deval Patrick plans to attend the funeral for a Duxbury part-time police officer who was fatally struck by a car while directing traffic near the Marshfield Fair last month.
    Officer Melvin Dyer was struck on Aug. 16 near the intersection of Route 3A and South River Street.
    Witnesses told police a car failed to stop and struck the 67-year-old Dyer, who was working a paid detail. The officer also worked with the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department.
    Dyer’s funeral is set for Tuesday morning at St. Christine’s Church in Marshfield.
    Kristen Wusteney of Marshfield faces a variety of charges, including motor vehicle homicide.
