Replica or BB Gun on campus.

Just throwing it out there. And the question is directed mainly at the current LE and Particularly CPO's and school resource officers.

A replica firearm or a BB Gun on campus of a school or a university. No other crime committed. Stored in a vehicle.

What is the strongest action one can take. Assume that you actually come upon it lawfully.

Just a debate between me and one of our SRO's. I know where I stand. Tell me what you would do.

I've seen it many times and usually in the situation you described stern warning and confiscation or judicial referral (in-house) depending on the attitude of the person in possession.

Yeah. It's pre-ban.
nightowl and Wolfman had the best responses. Nightowl for realism, Wolfman for laughs, with a touch of realism thrown in for laughs.

Overall, Nightowl hits the mark. The old game of Assassin hasn't caused a student to be shot by police yet (and we all know how people would view THAT scenario) and God willing it'll never happen, but fake guns are OUT THERE and it causes more headaches and potential heartaches than could ever be justified. We'll never really stop it, but how we handle it makes some difference.

Make a huge deal out of it, we're perceived as overracting. Blow it off, we're not acting enough. No matter what, someone will find fault, that's the way of the world in general, not just academia, but if you go with Nightowl's response, no matter what bruises you might get, it's only a bruise.
