WESTBROOK, Maine -- A man well-known to Westbrook police is facing new charges.

Michael Towne, 32, was stopped for questioning Wednesday near the railroad bridge on Main Street.

Police said Towne became combative and had to be restrained after he was found to be carrying 31 packages of marijuana and a knife.

Towne was arrested on charges of furnishing drugs, carrying a concealed weapon and violating conditions of release.

Police said Towne has a long criminal history including past convictions for assaulting a police officer, theft and drug possession.
