REHOBOTH - Selectmen interviewed seven semi-finalists for police chief Tuesday night and narrowed the list to three finalists.

The finalists are:

Paul King, of Seekonk, a major for three years with the Pawtucket Police Department, where he has worked 27 years.

Stephen Enos, of Riverside, R.I., a lieutenant for 10 years with the East Providence Police Department, where he has worked 25 years.

Charles R. Brule, of Barrington, R.I., a senior supervisor with the court security division of the Federal District Court of Rhode Island. He was a police chief for 3 1/2 years and deputy chief for three years with the Barrington Police Department in Rhode Island, where he worked for 29 years. Selectmen are meeting tonight and are expected to name a chief then.

Rehoboth Police Lt. Michael Brady, who has been serving as acting chief since selectmen decided not to renew former Police Chief Norman Miranda's contract at the end of June, was one of the semifinalists interviewed, but withdrew his name before the finalists were named.

Brady, a Seekonk selectman, said he was withdrawing because of the residency requirement, and partly because he says he has seen police chiefs not reappointed after a short time, and he has 23 years invested in the department.

Brady is a member of the police union now.

There were 45 applications for police chief, and 10 semifinalists, but three chose not to go ahead with interviews.

The search had been put on hold for budgetary reasons.
