A Milton man arrested on marijuana charges also had a loaded semiautomatic gun in his car, police said.
Miguel Rodrigues, 20, of 1099 Brook Road was arrested at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday after police stopped his car near 457 Adams St., Quincy police Capt. John Dougan said.
Dougan said detectives in the Quincy drug unit were watching Franklin Street when they saw Rodrigues and Delroy Butler, 22, of 146 Truro Lane, Milton, meet. When police stopped Rodrigues on Adams Street, they found marijuana on him and a 9 mm semiautomatic gun under the front seat, Dougan said.
Rodrigues told police he did not have a license to carry the gun, Dougan said.
"The drug unit did an excellent job in getting a very dangerous weapon off the street," Dougan said.
Dougan said Rodrigues is being charged with possession of a large capacity firearm without a license, possession of a large-capacity feeding device (a magazine), illegal possession of ammunition (five 9 mm rounds), defacing a firearm serial number, possession of marijuana and conspiracy to violate drug laws.
Dougan said police will seek to charge Butler with distribution of marijuana, conspiracy to violate drug laws and driving with a suspended license.
