Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and would like to gather some information on Stonehill College in Easton, MA. I was thinking of applying for a position at their Police Department and was curious to see if anyone knew any information on how the place is run.
Is it a large department, what rights do they have, are they taken seriously by the public, and basically if it is a good start into law enforcement ?
Do college police departments basically run the same way as local pd's.. That's basically what I am asking and if Stonehill College is a decent place to work?
I read a posting of a Police Officer job there and that's the position I would like info on.
Thankyou,
KHaring

I have a buddy / SSPO classmate who currently works there. He likes the department and they are Easton Specials as well. Plus there SSPO trained. I think they work details in Easton $$$ .

Hope that helps.

Stonehill is a great place to both work and start a police career. The patrolman positions are very competative when available. Not too much turnover either. Good luck with your search.

They are a professional, community-oriented department. The starting pay last I knew was about $32K. They are SSPO's and can be sworn Easton specials. They are NOT armed though! And no future plans to do so. Also be advised this department works closely with Administration/Dean of students/etc. Lots of escorts and service-oriented tasks. If this is not your cup of tea, look elsewhere.

P.S. Yes, you do not do much in the line of arrests and traffic enforcement.

Too many politics. Lot of locking and unlocking. Service calls. More maintance person than police.

Ok,

Looks like the comments about another campus department are about to start flying. To anyone thinking of applying to any department do your homework and decide based on your own observations. I am not saying to disregard comments made on this board, but keep in mind that the people talking negativlely about a particular department might have an agenda that you are not privy to at the time. The only things I have heard about Stonehill is the pay is reasonable. It is a union position, and the turnover rate is lower than most private colleges.

Its not all bad at Stonehill. The bad things are starting to outweigh the good. There is a large turnover. Average about 2-3 a year sometimes more out of 10 patrolman. The pay is decent and it is union although not that very strong or supportive.

And honestly, how is this any different than any other Campus PD?
