NEW BEDFORD - Pedro J. DeSousa cut his girlfriend's throat with a box cutter, killing her, after they fought at his home Sunday morning, prosecutors said today.
DeSousa, 47, of 14 Ashland Place was ordered held without bail today at his arraignment on charges he murdered Rebecca Felteau, 33.
The arraignment was held in DeSousa's room at St. Luke's Hospital. DeSousa injured his back jumping from a second-floor window of his home Sunday in an effort to elude police.
Prosecutor Cynthia Brackett said that DeSousa told police he slashed Felteau's throat after a fight.
Felteau suffered "significant trauma to the head" and "a deep laceration to her throat," she said.
