Alleged Assault Happened In Portland's Old Port

PORTLAND, Maine -- An off-duty Portland police officer faces charges following a fight in the Old Port earlier this month.

Cumberland County District Attorney Stephanie Anderson said police have put a lot of effort into curbing violence and rowdiness in the city's Old Port district, so she said it's "pretty disappointing" to see an officer charged with assault.

Anderson issued a complaint for two misdemeanor counts against Todd Bacon, 30, of Windham, who's accused of assaulting two men early on July 2.

Portland police are conducting an internal affairs investigation even though Bacon was not on duty at the time of alleged assault.

PORTLAND, Maine — Misdemeanor assault charges against a Portland police officer who was involved in an off-duty bar fight have been dismissed after he and the alleged victims reached a private settlement.
A District Court judge accepted the arrangement involving 30-year-old Officer Todd Bacon, who remains on unpaid administrative leave from the Portland Police Department pending an ongoing internal investigation of his conduct.
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
Bacon's lawyer says the officer was defending himself in the July 2 fight in the city's Old Port district that began when Bacon told a man to stop making offensive comments to some women. The alleged victims did not spell out their version of events in court filings.
