I had been on another department for almost 6 years when I got on my current job, but I was very much a trainee. I knew how to make an arrest, but I didn't have the first clue as to what forms I needed to complete, where to put them, etc. It was at least a couple of months before I felt comfortable in doing everything on my own.

Yes it is. Lets use me as an example; I've been a full time municipal police officer for seven years. Before that I was a campus police officer for five years. I went to the MPOC, the R/I academy, as well as a lot of specialized trainings, but I don't know a damn thing about being a Port Officer. I'm sure there's some type of job specific training that new hires go through, which by definition makes them trainees.

I'm pretty sure the ability to read a book or use binoculars and an axe is something which is common sense and doesn't need to be taught in an academy. I'm sorry, but if you can't read a chart or book you don't need and academy- you need an application for McDonald's.

I don't need an academy or an application for MacDonalds thank you. Looking at this list, it is quite obvious that their Officers are tasked with a number of non traditional duties, so what I would need, if hired at Massport, is some type of TRAINING PERIOD to learn the full scope of their duties, procedures, and job function.

And when does the notice go out for Worcester Airport since they devestated their department a few years ago and not the airport is viable again. MassPort has a PD, USE IT!

It's not all about who you know. I don't know anyone there and had no hookups or dimes dropped, and I received interviews for the only two Massport jobs I applied for, and one posting was subsequently frozen, and the Aviation officer job was offered but I declined.
