Police are seeking to suspend the driver's license of a Rockland man whose vehicle hit a worker painting a downtown crosswalk Tuesday night.
David Saucier, 47, part of town-hired crew painting crosswalks on Union Street, was taken to South Shore Hospital after being struck. He was treated and released.
James M. Jackson, 47, of 182 Myrtle St., driving a 1995 Toyota Camry, evidently did not see Saucier or police officer Gerald Eramo, who was signaling him to stop, police said.
Lt. Barry E. Ashton said Jackson was cited for driving to endanger and failure to stop for a police officer.
Police also have asked the Registry of Motor Vehicles to suspend Jackson's license. He admitted that a medical condition has impaired his ability to see at night, Ashton said.
Eramo had to jump out of the way of Jackson's car, Ashton said.
The car then struck Saucier, whose head hit the windshield, Ashton said.
