Fall River -
Police officers shocked a New Bedford man with a Taser several times before arresting him Friday night for allegedly breaking into the new courthouse under construction on South Main Street.
Joshua Jardin, 20, of 15 Holden St., was charged with larceny of more than $250, trespassing and breaking into a depository. An officer who first responded at around 9 p.m. Friday saw Jardin running through the construction site before jumping a fence, then heading a pedestrian walkway.
Other men were seen running from the site but were not caught, police said.
The man who called police to report a break-in at the courthouse later tackled Jardin to the ground, police said. An officer shocked Jardin with a Taser gun, knocking him back to the ground. Police had to use the Taser a few more times before Jardin was brought under control.
Containers on the site were broken into, and a pile of copper wire was found near where the suspects fled, police said.
