A Framingham man broke into a Jeep someone had already broken into on Monday, and he did it in front of a plainclothes officer, police said.
Alejo Hernandez, 43, was arrested after the 6:18 p.m. break-in on Park Street, police spokesman Lt. Paul Shastany said.
Officer Jeff Derosa was on a plainclothes patrol on Park Street when he saw Hernandez and another man riding bicycles down the road.
Hernandez stopped, got off his bicycle, and stuck his arm and head into the passenger side window of a vehicle and rode off, Shastany said.
Derosa went to the vehicle and saw the window was broken. He followed Hernandez, catching up to him in front of the Salvation Army downtown.
Derosa asked Hernandez why he broke into the car. "He said he didn't break the window but he did look into it to see if there was any money he could take," Shastany said.
Hernandez, of 25 Dennison Ave., was charged with breaking and entering into a vehicle.
"Putting his arm and head into the vehicle constitutes a breaking and entering," Shastany said.
Hernandez did not find anything because Shastany said the vehicle had already been broken into. Police said they do not know who broke in the first time.
Hernandez pleaded not guilty at his Framingham District Court arraignment yesterday and was released without bail.
He is due back in court on Oct. 9 for a pretrial conference.
