A homeless man arrested at least 11 times in 2007 was arrested for a third time since July after he assaulted a cop, police said.
John A. English, 62, was originally going to be taken into protective custody on Sunday after police found him passed out on the train platform downtown, but he struggled with police, screaming and throwing his shoulder into an officer's chest, police spokesman Lt. Paul Shastany said.
"This is par for the course for him," the lieutenant said.
Several people called police Sunday at about 12:15 p.m. reporting a man down on the platform.
Officers arrived and found English lying on the ground with an empty bottle of vodka next to him. He was obviously highly intoxicated, Shastany said.
"He couldn't answer any questions, such as, 'Are you all right,' " the lieutenant said. "After several minutes of trying to get up, he had to be helped up."
The officers planned to take him to the police station until he sobered up, but English yelled and threw a shoulder block into Officer Christian Miller's chest.
Police arrested English. He was charged with assault and disorderly conduct.
He had been arrested on Sept. 22 for trespassing, as he was on July 12.
In January, English pleaded guilty in Framingham District Court to charges of assault and battery on a police officer and disturbing the peace. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail for that assault.
In all, English has been arrested or taken into protective custody in Framingham more than 70 times, including 11 times in 2007.
English was released from the police station without bail and sent to the hospital because he was so intoxicated.
He is due to be arraigned in Framingham District Court next Tuesday.
