LEOMINSTER -- Two men are facing armed-robbery charges after allegedly tricking an acquaintance into taking them on a car ride Saturday and then robbing the man at knifepoint, according to police.
The 18-year-old victim received a call from Mikail Mancebo, 18, of 41 Rockdale Ave., Fitchburg, on Saturday night asking for a ride to a store, according to Police Sgt. Mark Amico.
The victim picked up Mancebo and Luis Robles, 20, of 146 Fifth St., Leominster, in the area of Sack Boulevard, Amico said.
Robles allegedly pulled out a knife at some point during the car ride and held it to the victim's throat.
"Robles was seated behind the victim and held the knife to his throat," Amico said. "Mancebo was in the passenger seat."
The two suspects allegedly took cash from the victim's pocket and a chain around his neck, and then fled the car on foot, according to Amico.
The victim then reported the incident to police.
Using a police dog and the information provided by the victim, police located the suspects in the area of Third Street, Amico said.
Police caught the two men in the area of Mechanic and Whitney streets at around 9:50 p.m., following a short pursuit on foot, Amico said.
"Officers did a fine job of quickly finding and arresting the suspects," Amico said.
Officer Richard Woodward investigated the incident. Robles is charged with armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest, Amico said. Mancebo is charged with armed robbery and resisting arrest, he said.
Both men are expected to be arraigned in Leominster District Court today.
