Sgt. Julian Manglona, an Army reservist and police officer from Saipan, died Thursday while training in Texas for what would have been his second deployment to the Middle East. He was 39.
Manglona, an Army reserve soldier from the 100th Battalion, assigned to the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, collapsed after a six-mile run Thursday at approximately 7 p.m. in the North Fort Hood training area, the Army confirmed.
Manglona was transported to Coreyell County Emergency Room, Gatesville, Texas, where he was pronounced dead.
The official cause of death was not known at the time of this release.
“Maj. Gen. Lee and I send our heartfelt condolences to Julian’s family and to the Soldiers of the 29th IBCT and the 100th Battalion,” said Brig. Gen. Alexander I. Kozlov, Commanding General of the 9th Mission Support Command. “Losing a family member fellow is very difficult. When soldiers train and deploy together, they too, become like family. Anytime we lose a soldier, we grieve. We are grieving right now. Our thoughts and prayers are with Julian’s family and our soldiers during this difficult time,” added Kozlov.
The Hawaii Army National Guard’s 29th IBCT and the 100th Battalion are currently conducting mobilization training at the Central Texas Army facility.
