Duties: You will perform various aspects of law enforcement at the US Army Soldier Systems Center, Natick, MA. You will exercise the authority to apprehend and detain individuals in motor vehicle violations, misdemeanors, felonies, etc., based on probable cause or a warrant. You will perform motorized as well as foot patrols in order to detect problem situations and/or conditions; controls vehicle and pedestrian traffic at fixed posts; conducts preliminary investigations of accidents and crimes. You will provide protective services work in guarding and protecting Federally-owned property, buildings, equipment, materials, and protects against trespass, theft, espionage, sabotage or willful damage and destruction. You will perform dispatcher duties and/or monitors intrusion detection system and video monitors, as required. You will operate NCIC computer information system and maintain communications with all police/security guard personnel throughout the installation.

About the Position: This position is located in the US Army Garrison, Soldier Systems Center. The Center manages and oversees a comprehensive, integrated program for major and secondary Department of Defense items and insures supportability and operational readiness of soldier, chemical and biological systems and items.

General Schedule
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is defined as knowledge of law enforcement, security or corrections operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer, in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: A Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing. Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms. Must undergo and pass periodic medical examination (physical, emotional and mental stability, etc). Incumbent must successfully complete law enforcement training. Must successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid. May be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment, and may be require to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and radar gun. May be required to pass entry level and/or annual re-certification of standard army physical readiness fitness test and annual physical agility test. Must participate in regularly scheduled training in the techniques of use of force, counter-terrorism, first aid, firearms, search and seizure, security operations and law enforcement. Periodic inspection will require walking and standing. Good eye/hand coordination is required to operate radios and police weapons and equipment. Must have good vision and hearing. Must be in good physical condition to assist in searching and restraining persons. Infrequently lifts persons involved in accidents/incidents; uses unarmed combat techniques for self-defense to subdue persons. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position. CREDITABLE EDUCATION: Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for a maximum of 3 months of specialized experience or 6 months of general experience.
