NEWTON -
Police are looking for a man who went into Shreve, Crump & Low at 199 Boylston St. and left with a 3.5-carat platinum diamond ring.
The man is described as white, 6 feet, 190 pounds with an average build and in his late 20s or early 30s. He has brown hair, was wearing a baseball hat, a rust-orange ski parka and blue jeans at the time of the incident on Sunday at about 3:20 p.m.
The suspect was followed to the parking lot, where a witness saw him jump into the passenger seat of an older Jeep Cherokee with a Bruins license plate and a Colby College bumper sticker. The car drove over a patch of grass outside the Paparazzi's entrance, onto Hammond Pond Parkway, and south toward Rte. 9.
Police found the Jeep, abandoned in a lot at 320 Hammond Pond Parkway, Brookline, at 5:30 p.m. Brookline Police reported that the Jeep had been stolen from their city earlier in the day.
Employees at Shreve said they believe they have seen the man in the store before, with another man who he claimed was his father who was looking for a ring for his wife.
