NEW BEDFORD - For the second time in as many days, police were notified someone had found the body of a young person who appeared to have died suddenly.
The body of a woman, whom police said was in her 20s, was found Friday around 1 p.m. inside a hotel room at the Days Inn at 500 Hathaway Road. A hotel worker found the woman and called 911.
She was already dead when police arrived. There were no obvious signs of foul play, New Bedford police spokesman Lt. Jeffrey P. Silva said. Lt. Silva said an autopsy and toxicology results will be conducted to determine the cause of death. He declined to say what detectives believe might have happened.
Lt. Silva said detectives are investigating the death in the wake of a man, who was also in his 20s and was found dead Thursday afternoon in a wooded area at Riverside Park.
"Anytime we investigate crimes or encounter victims of circumstances that appear similar, we always explore the possibility they may be connected," Lt. Silva said.
Thursday, two neighbors walking through Riverside Park found the man lying on his back with a hypodermic syringe next to him. Police said there were also no obvious signs of foul play.
Lt. Silva said police have identified both individuals, but declined releasing their names pending notification of next of kin.
He asked anyone with information about the deaths to contact the anonymous Tip Line at (508)-99-CRIME.
