Stabbing Occurred At Hartford School

HARTFORD, Conn. -- On the way to a call about a stabbing Wednesday morning, Hartford police said they found two assailants wanted in another case.

The Urban League School of Greater Hartford building on Woodland Street was surrounded by police tape after a man in his late teens or early 20s was found in the early afternoon with what appeared to be a knife wound to the neck.

"His shirt looked to be red, and it wasn't red," said witness George Rodriguez. "It wasn't made red. It was covered in blood."

Rodriguez said he was in the waiting room at the St. Francis emergency room down the street when the victim was brought in by a group of other young people, possibly from the school housed inside the Urban League building.
"It's unfortunate that it had to happen," Rodriguez said. "I hope they catch whoever did it, but they pulled together and got him down there."

On the way to the crime scene, Lts. Thomas Null and Brian Foley said they heard a police broadcast to be on the lookout for a red Ford Mustang with New Jersey plates that was just involved in a jewelry store robbery on Main Street.

As they came up to the intersection of Asylum Avenue and Sigourney Street, they said they saw the car with a tray of wedding rings right under the passenger's side front seat and two inside. They said the men were arrested without a struggle.

The rings were worth more than $10,000, Null said, and were returned to the jewelry store.

As far as the knife attack goes, the incident is still under investigation.
