Police rushed to Caswell Street in East Taunton this afternoon to investigate a report that there was a person with a gun was inside a house.
But when they got there, the residents insisted there was no problem, said Lt. John Joyce.
Several cruisers had rushed to the scene of the house not far from a farm in the rural section of the street shortly before 12:30 p.m. after authorities received a phone call purportedly from someone inside, saying there was someone at the house with a gun.
There were no report of shots fired. A passerby said police were outside the house in the 600 area of Caswell Street but the situation did not appear to be tense or serious.
Martin Middle School is about a mile away from the house.
Taunton Police Chief Raymond O'Berg told The Taunton Gazette, one of The Enterprise's sister papers, that residents at the house were not providing police with information. "They're not being cooperative," O'Berg said.
