HYANNIS (WBZ) ― A Hyannis man faces charges after a not so high-speed chase in a stolen excavator Thursday night.
Police officials say Christopher Lunn had been drinking late Thursday when he climbed aboard the excavator at a construction site and took off down Pitchers Way.
Police said Lunn, 24, worked at a pool company and knew how to operate the 20,000-pound machine.
When Lunn allegedly drove toward police they fired bean bags at him. He went more than 1,000 feet before hitting two telephone poles near Route 28.
The entire chase lasted about 30 minutes, police said.
Lunn was arraigned Friday morning on charges of assault by means of a dangerous weapon for allegedly driving at the officers.
He had to be taken to an area hospital to be treated for injuries from being hit by the bean bags.
