LEOMINSTER -- Police allege a Leominster man and his friend beat another man over the head with a beer bottle last month after a drug deal went wrong.

Leominster District Court Judge Mark Noonan ordered Joseph S. Dinardo, 24, of 22 Lorchris St., held on $5,000 bail Thursday. He is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and larceny more than $250.
Police on Aug. 22 responded to Scoreboards bar on Lancaster Street to investigate a report of an armed robbery, according to a report from Detective Scott Wolferseder.
The alleged victim told police that a man he knew only as "Joe" approached him at around 8:30 p.m. that night and asked if he could sell him marijuana. The victim allegedly told the suspect that he could not, but arranged a sale with another man, Wolferseder's report states
The victim then allegedly met up with Dinardo and the supplier at the Johnny Appleseed Plaza on Central Street, where the suspect gave the victim $275 for the marijuana. The three men returned to the bar and met with the supplier in the parking lot, according to the report.
The alleged victim got out of his car and gave the money to his supplier and returned with a bag of marijuana, the report states.
But the two men were not satisfied with the weight or quality of the marijuana and said they wanted their money back, Wolferseder wrote in his report. An argument ensued and the alleged victim reported being punched in the face and hit over the head with beer bottles the other men had contained in paper bags, Wolferseder wrote.

The two men then allegedly took the victim's wallet, car keys, and cell phone, the report states. The information eventually led police to Dinardo, who is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on Sept. 22.
