Police arrested the wife of an alleged purse thief when she went to his arraignment in Plymouth District Court on Monday.
Police say Robert Oliver III, 24, and his wife, Brittany Sorenti, 22, pulled up to a supermarket on Plain Street around 7:30 p.m. Sunday and Oliver went in and grabbed a woman's purse.
The woman fought with him and ran after him to his car. Oliver jumped into the car, which his wife was allegedly driving, and fled. The victim saw the license plate number, police said.
Police say Oliver went to the police station around 4 a.m. Monday with the woman's purse and turned himself in. But Oliver told police that the person driving the car was another man, not his wife.
Police said the victim identified Sorenti as the driver of the car when she picked up Oliver from his arraignment Monday.
She was taken to the Marshfield police station to be booked, and then returned to Plymouth District Court for arraignment.
Oliver and Sorenti, both of 1453 Ocean St., Apt. 1, were both charged with unarmed robbery and assault and battery. Oliver was also charged with giving false statements, police said. They were both released from jail.
