FITCHBURG -- A Lawrence man is being held on $100,000 cash bail after police found 104 grams of cocaine hidden in his car, according to court records.
Omar I. Carrasquillo, 27, of 153 Beacon Ave., Apt. 1, Lawrence, is charged with possession of a Class B drug, possession of a Class B drug with intent to distribute and trafficking in cocaine, according to court records.
Officers with Fitchburg's Drug Suppression Unit stopped Carrasquillo's car on Shea Street, Tuesday night after watching him pick up passengers, drive the passenger a short distance, and then drop the passenger off.
"These stops are consistent with that of illegal drug transactions," wrote Fitchburg Police Officer John Maki.
Police found a hidden compartment in Carrasquillo's car during the subsequent search.
Officers found 128 plastic bags containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine, according to Maki. Officers also found more than $4,000 in cash in the car and on Carrasquillo, Maki wrote.
An officer answered a cell phone ringing in the car and spoke to a person wanting to buy cocaine, Maki wrote. Fitchburg District Court Judge Patrick Fox ordered Carrasquillo held on $100,000 cash bail at the arraignment Wednesday. Carrasquillo is next due in court Sept. 30.
