The selectmen for the town voted last night and rejected the COPS grant from Homeland Security. This was going to be used to hire 14 new officers. The sad thing is that the Chief made a great presentation and explained to the board that the police department is understaffed and crime is on the rise. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't public safety one of the main priorities of government. Of course this is just my :2c: .

I'll play devil's advocate... how much was the grant for? what percent of the officer's pay and for how many years? maybe the selectmen were concerned with what happens when the fed money starts decreasing and the town share increases. and isn't plymouth already struggling with layoff's town wide?
