PITTSBURGH --
A police officer who has been under investigation for his actions in a homicide case has resigned from the department.
Police said Talib Kevin Ghafoor filed paperwork on Wednesday to resign.
Ghafoor was removed from street duty last week after the city's Office of Municipal Investigations and the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office began separate investigations into his testimony during a Sept. 29 court hearing.
Ghafoor gave contradictory testimony during the hearing on evidence in the 2006 shooting death of James Stubbs, 17, near Westinghouse High School, police said.
He initially told the court he did not have any communication with one of the suspects, Joseph Hall, 19, while Hall was in the Allegheny County Jail.
After prosecutors played tape recordings of Ghafoor and Hall talking in the jail, Ghafoor admitted that he spoke to Hall.
Police said their investigation is ongoing, despite Ghafoor’s resignation.
